Hi its Jan Faull again author of Mommy I have to go Potty and member of pull-ups training pants potty training partners.  If your child just had his second birthday it’s time to look for signs that indicate he is ready for potty training.  Keep in mind that most girls learn to use the toilet between 2 – 2 1/2 and boys between 2 1/2 -3 years.

Number one notice if your Childs diaper is dry and clean for an hour – n – half or so.  Number two if he puts items where they belong, the books go on the shelf, the pots and pans go in the cupboard.  If he knows where those items go he is likely to know that pee and poop go in the toilet. Number three, notice if she indicates that she has gone or is going pee or poop.

If she indicates these events, soon she’ll indicate the need to go in the toilet.  Number four; watch to see if he is willing to practice using the toilet as part of his daily routine.  Number five, notice if she plays toileting with her dolls, if so she’ll most likely be willing to try herself.  Number six, notice if he imitates you shopping, cooking and shaving.

If so, he’ll likely imitate you using the toilet as well.  Number Seven is your child ready to give up diapers and willing to put on pull-ups training pants or cotton underwear?  Number eight, is your child interested in watching friends, siblings and cousins use the toilet?  If so he’ll likely be willing to try using the toilet himself.

If you answered yes to most of these eight questions, your child is ready to begin learning to use the toilet.  Your first step is to purchase pull-up training pants and underwear and develop a plan.  Keep in mind that pull-ups are an important tool to assist your child on the road to toilet training.  Eventually he’ll wear underpants full time.

That’s all for now.  Next time I’ll give you suggestions for officially getting toilet training underway.  IN the meantime if you have questions go to http://www.pullups.com.  Bye for now from Jan Faull, the potty coach.
