Do you want to be a new mom’s best friend?  Take her the best baby gift ever by filling up a basket with treats that she can enjoy!  Hi everybody this is Rebecca Powell for Baby Talk Radio.  During the first few days at home, mom deserves to be pampered.  With all of her focus on the baby she needs to remember to look after herself and take time to rest, relax and nap when the baby does.

To encourage her to spend a nice block of uninterrupted time with her feet up put together a don’t get up basket.  Consider it a new mom’s backpack for camping out on the couch.  Here are some ideas to get you started.  Always remember to include some healthy snacks like peanuts, pretzels or crackers because you need to remember your friend is probably already concerned about losing the extra pounds she gained during pregnancy.

Include a water bottle; a breast feeding mom needs to be drinking 8-12 glasses of water each day!  How about some thank you notes with stamped envelopes?  This is a time savor for a new mom.  Include personal items like a hair brush, lip balm, and moisturizing hand lotion.  Fill a zipper bag with at least one diaper change.  Include a diaper, wipe, diaper ointment and a change of clothes for the baby.

Include hand sanitizer for mom.  After she changes the baby’s diaper she can use the zipper bag for disposal so she doesn’t have to get up.  How about a disposal camera?  You know that baby is going to do something cute that mom will need to document.  Remember to get one with a flash for indoor pictures.

How about some reading material or cross word puzzles?  Sugarless gum and mints, these can help round out your basket.  For mother with older children at home include a nice long video for the kids.  Maybe some coloring books and crayons or a package of sidewalk chalk.  This will keep the older siblings occupied and make them feel special and appreciated as well.

If your close friend and maybe you have the day to yourself you could drop off the basket and take the older children home with you for the day.  Then mom really won’t have to get up!  For more encouragement for new moms visit my website, www.rebeccapowell.com Thanks for listening to Baby Talk Radio.
