Getting Rest While Your Pregnant

Hi it’s Renee Canham here to talk to you about the joys of pregnancy. This week I’m gong to give you some tips for getting some rest and relaxation for when you are pregnant with your first.

The first thing I recommend is sleep as much as you can. When you are pregnant with your first it’s a really good time to focus on yourself and to focus on the baby. You don’t have any other kids running around after you so you can really take your time and really focus in on yourself and I think that’s really important before you embark on this great journey of motherhood. It’s so important to take care of yourself during this time.

My husband and I knew that we were pregnant with our first because all of the sudden I wanted to sleep all the time, I had been just sleeping normal hours and then all of a sudden I wanted to sleep 12 hours at a time and it was my body saying hey you need to take a break, you need to rest, you need to get some sleep and let your body do its good work. So sleeping is really important. Some other things you can do to really take good care of yourself are take naps during the day instead of just making sure that you are sleeping enough at night.

Take comfortable baths, you want the water temperature to be not to hot. A bath is just amazing especially when you get later on in your pregnancy and the baby is starting to get heavy it is really nice to just soak in that water and give the baby plenty of space to wiggle around. We had a great experience when I was pregnant with our first. My husband came in and sat on the edge of the tub when I was taking a bath and our baby was moving all over the place, my whole belly looked like the baby was moving in there. My husband said it looked like an alien. It was so neat, it was just great to take that nice bath and really connect with the baby there.

Get your hair cut while you are pregnant. Take that time for yourself and get a new look. Take long walks, go on a hike in nature something not to challenging where you get to over heated but it’s really nice connecting with yourself and connecting with your baby. Do prenatal yoga, that’s another thing that a lot of people do that helps them connect with themselves, their baby and their breathing and it helps get ready for labor to.

Have a massage, if you don’t want to go have a full massage, a lot of people aren’t comfortable having massages during pregnancy, have your husband rub your legs or your lower back. My husband is great when I’m pregnant about rubbing my feet and legs when they start to get a little swollen.

Sit around and read, just sit and read. When you are pregnant with your first you have no idea how precious this time is because I can’t tell you now that we have three running around there is no time for me to just sit and read barely ever. Sit down, read a book, read about how your baby is growing, or read about labor, or you know what read a fiction book that has nothing to do with your baby and give yourself time.

Another thing that’s become really popular lately is where you take a little trip just by yourself to connect with yourself and get ready for the baby, get in a good frame of mind. You can even take a trip with your husband, it’s just a trip that you take before your baby is born and you won’t be able to do that very soon after your baby is born so it would be a good time to do it.

My main suggestion is sleep. Again back to sleep. We have a seven year old and ever since he was born I have not had a really nice sleep and a friend of mine has an 18 year old and she said that she hasn’t really slept well in 18 years so take care of yourself while you are pregnant, get in touch with yourself, get in touch with your baby especially if it is your first. Really rest and relax.

Next week I’m going to talk to you about things you can to do to get rest and relaxation when you have other little ones running around.
