Hi it’s Stacie and I’m just gonna talk today a little bit about babies learning to talk and we’ve had a couple of incidents on the show where we’ve heard little audio clips of babies saying their cute words.  Right now I’m in a little bit of a transition with my son because he’s gonna be 2 in December and he’s learning quite a few words and phrases now.

It’s funny because he was the only baby that I’ve had where for about month I felt like I needed a translator.  He would say all of these little sounds and words and phrases and I had no clue what he was saying.  I had never had that problem with my daughters and it was so frustrating for him because it was like he would say this phrase and I would just stare at him with this blank look so he would say it again with all this emphasis and I still couldn’t understand so I’d make a guess and when I guessed wrong he would get so frustrated.

I felt so bad because I couldn’t understand what he was saying.  Eventually I started to slowly slowly figure it out.  How was I supposed to know that d mo meant let’s go.  I only figured that out because one day we were getting ready to go to the store so I picked up my keys and headed up the door and said ok son let’s go and then he got up off the floor and looked at me all excited with wide eyes and said d mo and I said oh yes let’s go and he said yes.  I was so happy!

I told my husband when he came home that I finally figured out what that means, it means let’s go.  My husband looks at me and said what?  It doesn’t even sound that close so I think he didn’t believe me but later on a couple days later we were all going out as a family and my husband said ok girls let’s go and then my son came running toward the door and said d mo so I guess that convinced my husband that actually meant let’s go.

There are a number of phrases like that that didn’t sound anywhere near to me when he first said it like anything that I could think that he would say.  It took me awhile, about a month.  It was about a month that he was still saying things that I didn’t have a clue what he was saying.  I ended up figuring a lot of it out and now he is getting to the point where he is saying a lot of things that I can easily understand and his sisters can easily understand and it’s so fun to see them grow and develop like that.

As a parent you’re happy because you know your child is growing and learning and developing and they just learn so fast.  For him it was like he just hit this one time where his vocabulary and all the words that he could say just exploded.  Like I said, in a way as a parent you are happy for your child but for me he is going to be my last child so it is almost a little bit sad because the more he talks and the more he practices the better and better the words sound which is a good thing but I’m gonna miss the cute baby way that he said a lot of things because it was so cute and so adorable.

As he talks and talks more and more he is sounding more and more like a regular human being talking.  So while it’s great to see him grow and develop its also a little bit of mixed feelings because I know I’m going to miss the cute baby talk that I may never hear from my own children again.

Definitely yes they grow fast and I know you know that but take all the time you can to enjoy those cute words and if you can record them and have them on audio or even on video that’s so great.  Have fun with your kids and definitely enjoy them while you have them at each stage.
