Traveling with Baby?  Follow these tips before and during your travel to ensure that you have a smooth time.  Get to the airport early.  Going through security can be exhausting.  You are likely to have to take your child out of the stroller, hold it up and walk her through the metal detectors with you.  Carry your baby in a front or back backpack and use your stroller to maneuver your car seat and carrier throughout the airport.

Try to get seats where you’ll have a bit more wiggle room and you won’t have to worry about your child kicking the back of the person’s seat in front of you.  Give your child something to suck on during takeoff and landing. It’s a perfect time for a scene which will reduce ear pressure and will help alleviate your child’s pain.

A pacifier will always work well.  If you are traveling with a spouse one of you board early with the stuff and get the kids on last.  Keep yourself and your child hydrated during air travel.  Consider using nose drops and drink lots of water.  Invest in your child’s seat.  Having a safe and secure place for your child to rest during travel is well worth the cost.  Check as much as you can, take a carry on with diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, snacks or fluids and leave the rest behind.

Following these tips will ensure you of a smooth start to your vacation destination.  I’m Michelle LaRowe, author of Nanny to the Rescue and Nanny to the Rescue again for Baby Talk Radio.  Be sure to visit my website www.michellelarowe.com to get your parenting tip of the day.
